Sunset Hotel Group was formed by King Patel in 1996, and is headquartered in Edgewood, Maryland. Sunset is organized into two primary functions: hotel management and business development. On a combined basis, our executives have over 75 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Each of our officers worked in the hospitality industry, and then managed major hotel franchises throughout their careers. Our executives started in the rooms and grew into management.
King Patel is a lifetime hotelier who founded the Sunset Hotel Group in 1996.
Mr. Patel is responsible for all management and business activities at Sunset. He is active in the banking, private equity, capital structure, and manages/secures franchise agreements for properties such as Intercontinental, Hilton, Choice, Marriott, Red Lion, Wynham, among others. Under Mr. Patel’s leadership, Sunset’s history includes the turnaround of dozens of distressed hotel properties and development of multiple new hotels.
Dan Patel earned engineering degrees and then joined his brother at Sunset Hotel Group in 1997.
Mr. Patel is responsible for all internal financial services within Sunset. His direct oversight includes the departments of Corporate and Property Accounting, Payroll, Information Technology, and Internal. Mr. Patel is a member of the AAHOA organization as well as serving on many local committees and boards in the Maryland and Harford County area.
Mr. Patel holds degrees from BVM University Gujarat, India in both Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
Ms. Shah is a lifelong hotelier and since 2009 has represented Sunset as its General Counsel. Duties include all legal aspects of real estate procurement, business transactions, mergers, acquisitions and contracts. Ms. Shah could serve or oversee as primary attorney for litigation and arbitration for commercial, financial, liability and employee relations cases.
Ms. Shah a graduate of Georgetown University and George Washington Law School.
Lee Kellar joined the Sunset Hotel Group in 2000. Mr. Kellar is responsible for the operation of Sunset’s portfolio of hotels, consisting of properties in the full service, extended stay, and limited service categories. Mr. Kellar also oversees sales and marketing, revenue management, and public relations.
Prior to joining Sunset, Mr. Kellar spent 13 years with Prime Hospitality/Krisch Hotels where he served as Food & Beverage Director, General Manager, Regional Director of Food & Beverage, and Regional Director of Hotel Operations which consisted of sixteen hotels across six franchise brands.
Mr. Kellar is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Powers is involved with Sunset capital market activities including acquisitions, development, note sales, refinance, and other capital market activities. Mr. Powers’ background in real estate includes institutional Prudential and Equitable/AXA before he moved to private equity roles.
Mr. Powers is an undergraduate of the University of Maine, BA and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC.
Ms. Holsopple is a 30 year professional responsible for all Human Resources functions including training and development, selection and recruiting, compensation and benefits, recognition and employee relations. Ms. Holsopple is also responsible for the development and implementation of retention strategies that include New Associate Orientation, Management Training (focusing on leadership development and performance management), and Succession Planning for all managers. Ms. Holsopple spent 23 years with the Hess Hotel Group and brings a variety of experience to her role.
Ms. Holsopple a graduate of University of Maryland with a degree in Business Administration.
Ms. Linda is responsible for bookkeeping and accounting for Sunset Hotel Group for last 24 years
